AMA DABLAM

Summit Guides

Climb the ‘Matterhorn of the Himalayas’ – the technical and demanding Ama Dablam (6812m) with Summit Guides.

Ama Dablam (6812m) is considered to be one of the most beautiful mountains in the World. Ama Dablam means ‘mothers necklace’ – her long ridges like the arms of a mother (ama) protecting her child, with the large hanging serac a ‘Dablam’ – or traditional pendant - around her neck.

Dominating the Khumbu skyline, Ama Dablam sports an arresting SW ridgeline on a big, steep mountain, and so makes the perfect training for extreme high altitude such as Everest and a true jewel of Himalayan mountaineering in her own right.

Join Summit Guides on an altitude expedition to climb Ama Dablam. Himalayan mountaineering Khumbu, Nepal .

Experience required: Previous high altitude expedition experience, ideally above 6000m; plenty of summer rock mileage on long Severe grade routes and Grade 3 scrambles such as the Cuillin Ridge; long winter mountaineering days in Scotland (seconding comfortably at Grade III) or around AD in the Alps. Individuals should be physically robust enough for multiple days of load carrying, and moving up steep ground – notably on the Yellow Tower and in the Grey Couloir. This trip involves significant jumaring and abseiling on fixed lines between camps, with sustained exposure throughout – so individuals should have a proven head for heights.

A bespoke preparation training programme consists of a weekend in Snowdonia followed by a weekend in Scotland in winter, depending on previous experience.
